Dear MendMeShop,

In August of 2009, I suffered a severe meniscus tear in my left knee, pain level 9.5 out of 10. This occurred in my sleep while trying to untangle sheets that had wrapped around my ankles. I had awoken suddenly to severe pain that that only got worse as the injury began to swell under my kneecap. This injury rendered me unable to walk and getting out of bed took 5 - 10 minutes. I would prop myself up on crutches with a pillow in my mouth to bite down on and stifle my yelling as to not disturb the rest of my family, while I straightened my leg. I needed to do this every time before I could begin a trip to the bathroom; which at 49 years old is a 3am occurrence every night. I knew I was a candidate for arthroscopic surgery. I had major and minor surgies over the past two years and was not excited about another one. I started to research options online when I stumbled upon The MendMeShop. After reading the testimonies and weighing the cost, I decided to give the Knee Inferno and Knee Freezie a try! BOY! AM I GLAD THAT I DID!! Within a couple of weeks, I was able to get rid of the crutches and was 95% pain free in 8 weeks, completely healed and back on a treadmill two weeks after that. I have a friend at church who had the same injury, opted for surgery, and took 12 weeks to heal. Purchasing the wraps was by far the wisest medical treatment decision I have ever made for two reasons. Once you have surgery you are never the same,(with knee surgery you are almost guaranteed arthritis in the affected area within ten years or less), and the healing process was quicker without having to undergo invasive surgery. Thank you MendMeShop!! Fan For Life

Sciatica - Treatments

Rest can help you heal your back pain.

Sciatica pain relief begins by obtaining a proper diagnosis from a doctor specializing in back pain and disorders. Many times, sciatica is associated with over-exertion or a back injury. In these cases, it's important to determine if conservative measures including ice/heat therapy, anti-inflammatory medications, moderate activity, and ultrasound therapy such as MendMeShop Ultrasound Therapy are adequate. Conservative treatments are effective but if the injury is more serious; considerable loss of feeling and numbness, injury was brought on by sudden trauma, suspected nerve damage, loss of bladder and bowel control, muscle weakness or if the pain lasts and gets progressively worse, then medical attention should be sought. Bed rest has long been accepted as necessary for relieving back pain and sciatica. In more recent years the long term benefits of bed rest have been challenged. While rest may temporarily relieve pain within the first day or two of an injury, prolonged bed rest may be detrimental to healing. Inactivity includes muscle atrophy (loss of muscle mass), tightness and low blood flow, all of which are disadvantageous for healing. Rather, treatments should be geared at maximizing mobility and maintaining lumbar strength.

Ultrasound - For more detailed information on how ultrasound is helping heal lower back pain and sciatica see our About Ultrasound section. Essentially, with regards to sciatica, ultrasound therapy provides stimulation to deep muscle tissue increasing nutrient rich blood flow to the area. It has been found to aid distended connective tissue, which is important for stretching, thereby increasing range of motion for safer and more effective rehabilitation.

Cold Compression Back Wrap.

Cold Wraps - Our cold compression wraps allow you to actively treat yourself using the RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) method within the first couple days of injuring your back. And because the cold wraps serve to numb nerves the wraps also reduce pain! Furthermore, our wraps keep the ice off the skin preventing frostbite and keep the cold in the area that you need it. You want to ice in 20 minute intervals with at least 45 minutes between each interval. Within a week or two it may prove useful to see your doctor about passive and more active stretching and strengthening for your injured back.

How to Order

Physical Therapy - Extension exercises may be part of the daily regimen recommended by your chiropractor or therapist. This includes lying on the stomach in a prone position and propping the upper body up on the elbows. Keep the hips on the floor and gently stretch by holding the position up to 30 seconds if possible. This change in position from bending forward may relieve the pressure temporarily on the sciatic nerve. Advanced forms of extension exercises will be given as the inflammation causing sciatic nerve pain begins to resolve. The use of ultrasound or our warm wraps before stretching and exercising the lower back will help compensate for impaired movement enabling a thorough stretch and/or workout.

medications are a temporary relief

Medication - Over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications are another sciatica home treatment. Since sciatica is caused by pressure on the sciatic nerve complex, reducing the swelling around the nerve endings is necessary for lowering the pain intensity. Anti-inflammatory medications are generally not as effective when used alone as when used in combination with other sciatica home treatments such as exercise. And besides, physical therapy like stretching and massage often provide the same pain relieving benefits as medication but without any side effects. Steroids may help with nerve inflammation related to a herniated disc, but their use should be minimized.

BFST™ - Using Your Body's Natural Healing System

Inferno Wrap providing superior blood flow stimulation.

Your body can heal itself! In fact, your body starts healing itself the moment you are injured and it's the blood in your body that makes it all happen. Your blood is the transport mechanism for everything that is good inside you. It carries oxygen, nutrients, water and antibodies. Proper blood flow is essential to healing. Unfortunately, when you injure your body you stop moving and the swelling sets in. That means your vital blood flow can be reduced to a trickle! If you want to heal quickly, you need to keep your blood moving and that's where Blood Flow Stimulation Therapy™, or BFST™, comes in.

Blood Flow Stimulation Therapy™ promotes the flow of blood through the injured area without the need to exercise your already damaged tissue. You can really feel it work. Within moments of applying an Inferno Wrap™ you can feel the healing sensation and the increase in blood flow. During a treatment, and for quite some time after you finish, your injured area will experience increased blood flow even though your body is at rest. It's a soothing sensation and extremely effective. With BFST™ your injury is constantly being fed with healing, nutritious, oxygen and energy filled blood. This is exactly what your body needs to heal.

xyliss ultrasound

Ultrasound therapy is also a helpful tool for pain prevention of sciatic nerve related problems, and having a portable ultrasound device at home can be a powerful and convenient treatment tool. If you have symptoms or are recovering from a sciatic related injury or problem, using ultrasound on a regular basis before your activity or throughout the day will help relax your muscles, tendons and tissues, diminish pain and inflammation, soften scar tissue and contribute greatly to the healing of your injury.

If you suffer from mild inflammation or pain after certain activities or movements use ultrasound therapy when you complete the activity and then rest and elevate your area of injury. Limit the application of ultrasound to a couple of treatments per day (the manual will recommend treatment frequency depending upon the injury). In between ultrasound treatments, maximize your pain relief and injury recovery by using an Inferno™ Personal Therapy System. Proven Performance, Proven Relief - only found at MendMeShop.com. If you have been given a treatment plan by your health professional, make sure you adhere to it to ensure pain free living.
